Symbols of Change is an interactive ritual in which your heart rate is recorded live and takes shape as a personal artwork.
The heart rate holds a unique biological signature, rhythmically charting the ebb and flow within us. The work forms a bridge between biology and art, body and spirit.
The ritual is a personal rite of passage: a moment to pause and reflect, to feel what surfaces. By taking part you mark something that matters to you in that moment — an anchor for a new phase of life, an intention, a letting go.
The technique emerged from Julie’s residency at Stichting Ademruimte, where together with Beer van Geer she developed a way to translate heart-rhythm recordings into tactile, generative textile prints.
That research grew into the project Totem, of which Symbols of Change is the second series.
